What's New for April 2013 - April 10, 2013

We will be attending the Great Scale Train Show in Timonium, MD this week end , Saturday and Sunday, the 13th and 14th.. This should be a good show. Everyone around here is sick of the cold and it will be nice to get out and go somewhere that you don't have to wear a coat, gloves, scarf, etc.

We will have all of our steel mill stuff and we are liquidating the last of the HO Thomas trains we had in the store. New old stock at the old discount prices.

Walthers has brought in a new run of "Allied Rail Rebuilders" and the "Vulcan Manufcturing Co." List is $39.98 and we sell them for $31.95. These kits are some of the most popular for kitbashing into steel mill related buildings. Our own "Magarac Steel & Iron" railroad used a modified Allied Rail Rebuilders kit for our blowing house and a Vulan Manufacturing for the power house. These are small enough to be workable, but big enough to look plausible.

The 2013 Steel Mill Modelers Meet

The 2013 Steel Mill Modelers Meet is on track for August 28th thru September 1. We are currently evaluating two hotels that have the facilities we need. Our decision will be based on which one has the best deal. By that I mean sleeping room rates, free parking, and a restaurant that is worth patronizing. Nothing starts a morning off badly like a bad breakfast, and we want to avoid that!

As I mentioned before we will be touring Carrie Furnace and we still have a couple of mill tours in the yes/maybe state. Operational people at the mills are good to go, but we need approval from the corporate legal offices. Fortunately our status as an NMRA SIG gives us insurance coverage and that is a very good thing when dealing with corporate legal entities.

As you know we have always provided the highest quality seminars. This year's lineup is no exception. We have in the past provided all of the presentations to the attendees in PowerPoint digital format. We have tried CD's (labor intensive), Internet communication (limits file sizes) and we will now try using thumb drives. Bring your thumb drive and we will load it with the presentations, or you can buy a thumb drive loaded with the presentations for $5.00 at the meet.

We have restocked our supply of "The Magarac Society" Polo Shirts. This is a high quality black polo shirt with an embroidered logo of Joe Magarac. We will have a good selection of sizes. Remember you cannot buy this anywhere except at a Steel Mill Modelers Meet.

Our Webmaster is busily working on our on line registration form. You will be able to register on line using your credit card. This should be available in about two weeks.

Basic registration (seminars, layout tours, Saturday dinner, sales/display with free tables) is still only $98.00. The Carrie tour is an extra cost item TBD (Do we need a bus?) Other prototype tours are $TBD. We will keep you posted.
